The Armour of God
In , nestled between rolling hills and thick forests, lived a young man named Tobi. He was known for his kind heart and eager spirit, but he often felt unprepared for the unseen battles of life. Though outwardly strong, inwardly he wrestled with fear, doubt, and the lure of temptation that seemed to stalk him like a shadow.
One evening, after a long day in the fields, Tobi sat under a tree near the old chapel. The village pastor, a wise elder named Baba Adebayo, noticed his troubled look and walked over.
“My son,” Baba said gently, “why do you look so burdened?”
Tobi sighed. “I want to do right, but it feels as though I am constantly at war. Fear attacks me, temptations surround me, and doubt whispers in my mind. I do not know how to stand.”
The old man smiled knowingly. “Then it is time you learn about the Armour of God.”
Tobi’s eyes widened. “Armour? Like the warriors wear?”
“Yes,” Baba chuckled, “but this armour is not made of metal or leather. It is stronger. It is God’s own provision for His children.”
That night, under the starlit sky, Baba Adebayo opened the Scriptures and explained:
“First, you need the belt of truth. Lies are the enemy’s greatest weapon, but when you cling to God’s truth, your life is held together.”
“Next,” he said, tapping Tobi’s chest, “wear the breastplate of righteousness. This guards your heart. You cannot stand in your own goodness, but Christ’s righteousness will protect you from guilt and shame.”
He pointed to Tobi’s feet. “Put on the shoes of the gospel of peace. Wherever you go, let peace guide your steps. Walk in readiness to share God’s good news.”
Baba lifted an imaginary shield with his arm. “Take up the shield of faith. When doubt and fear come like fiery arrows, faith in God’s promises will quench them.”
He touched his head. “Wear the helmet of salvation. Never forget that you belong to God. Salvation guards your mind from hopelessness.”
Finally, Baba held out his hand like he was gripping a sword. “And this— the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. It is your only offensive weapon. With Scripture, you resist and strike down the lies of the enemy.”
Tobi sat in silence, letting each piece sink into his heart. For the first time, he realized that the struggles he faced daily were not just natural—they were spiritual. And God had not left him defenseless.
The very next morning, when fear tried to creep in, Tobi whispered, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” With those words, courage rose within him. When tempted, he remembered, “It is written…” and turned away. When doubts came, he lifted the shield of faith, reminding himself of God’s promises.
Over time, the villagers noticed the change in him. He was no longer weighed down by hidden battles. Instead, he walked with peace, spoke with boldness, and lived with joy.
One day, a friend asked, “Tobi, how do you remain so strong?”
Smiling, he replied, “I am learning to wear the Armour of God. It is not my strength, but His.”
And so, Tobi discovered that victory is not won by physical might, but by putting on the full armour of God every day.
